Recently, scientific researchers from the Institute of Physical and Chemical Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Zhongshan Advanced Cryogenic Technology Research Institute have successfully developed the first ten thousand watt helium refrigerator in China. This refrigeration machine is the first ultra large helium low-temperature refrigeration machine successfully developed by Chinese scientists. In liquefaction mode, the helium liquefaction rate reaches 3370 liters per hour. It will be applied to the national major science and technology infrastructure accelerator driven transmutation research device to provide a low-temperature environment for the treatment of nuclear waste.

Helium temperature zone refrigeration technology can not only provide key technical support for basic scientific research, medical equipment development, rare gas separation, etc., but also provide liquid hydrogen technology solutions to solve the challenges of large-scale clean energy storage and transportation, promoting the sustainable development of the new energy industry. A 10000 watt helium refrigeration unit refers to a super large low-temperature refrigeration unit with a cooling capacity of over 10000 watts at liquid helium temperature (minus 269 degrees Celsius). It is a key core equipment for cutting-edge research in large scientific devices such as accelerators and controlled nuclear fusion. In order to realize the autonomous control of ultra large cryogenic refrigeration technology, the cryogenic engineering and system application team of the Institute of Physical and Chemical Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has been working in this field for more than ten years, and successfully developed a 10000 watt helium refrigerator.

"The core components of this refrigerator, such as helium compressor, helium bearing turbine expander, low temperature heat exchanger, super large and high vacuum thermal insulation cold box, are all independently developed by China. Among them, the super large and high vacuum thermal insulation cold box is about 28 meters long, more than 4 meters in diameter, and weighs 180 tons; the helium bearing turbine expander can rotate up to 100000 to 150000 rpm under the condition of heavy load and high power." Liu Liqiang, a researcher at the Institute of Physical and Chemical Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that this is an important breakthrough in the development of super large helium cryogenic refrigerators in China. This equipment has been opened in Hefei, Anhui, the third session of China (Anhui) Science and Technology Innovation Achievements Transformation Trade. The exhibition was launched at the conference.
